Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder is one of the best players in the NBA today. There's not much that he can't do on the court.

The former MVP winner averaged a triple-double for the second season in a row for the Thunder last season, averaging 25.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 10.3 assists during the regular season and 29.3 points, 12 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game in the playoffs.

However, there is one part of his game which he needs to work on, especially if he wants to do all that he can to help out the Thunder in what will be a very tough Western Conference across 2018-19.

During an appearance on Zach Lowe’s podcast this week, ESPN’s Royce Young has said Westbrook is working on improving his 3-point shooting in his training this offseason.

Young explained that the Thunder wants Russ to be a bit better of a catch-and-shoot guy, which means he needs to spread the ball around a lot more.

Westbrook definitely needs to improve his 3-pointers, as he converted just 29.8 percent of his shots from 3-point range last season. He only attempted 4.1 shots from beyond the arc per game, which was his lowest total in five seasons.

If Russ wants to be recognised alongside the likes of James Harden of the Houston Rockets and Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors, and help the Thunder compete in the West, he must become a better 3-point shooter.

Westbrook’s best season shooting the three came in his 2016-17 MVP season, where he shot it at 34.3 percent, which still isn't great in terms of today’s 3-point shooting.

In order for Westbrook to transform himself into a better 3-point shooter and a catch and shoot guy, he's going to have to have less of the ball, which is something that is very difficult to image happen on this Thunder squad.

Paul George, Steven Adams, and Dennis Schroder should be able to help out the former MVP winner in this department, but it definitely feels like there is going to be some teething issues, especially if the Thunder aren't getting the results on the board early on next season.
