When he joined WWE back in 2014, very big things were expected of Finn Balor.

He was one of the most highly anticipated signings in recent memory, especially after what he achieved in NJPW.

And early on, he found a lot of success, especially in NXT - debuting his "Demon" gimmick.

A STRONG START

By July 2015, Balor was the developmental brand's champion - and was one of NXT's most popular superstars, both in and out of the ring.

A year later, the Irishman was called up to the main roster and joined the RAW brand, as part of the 2016 WWE draft.

Even on the main roster he started out strong and beat Seth Rollins in the main event of SummerSlam to become the inaugural Universal Champion.

TERRIBLE LUCK

Capturing that title on his first attempt also landed Balor his first ever world championship in WWE, but in that match, he sustained a shoulder injury that kept him out for six months.

The Demon had to vacate his belt the night after SummerSlam and ever since then, even though he's more than capable, it seems that Vince McMahon hasn't used him in the same way.

BEING WASTED ON RAW

When he first made his comeback last year, many fans expected Finn to go straight back into the Universal title picture, but it never happened.

In fact, to his day, he's still not had a one-on-one shot for the championship he never actually lost - which annoys a lot of fans.

Balor seems to have been caught in limbo for well over a year now. He hasn't really had any high profile feuds and certainly hasn't had another solid title shot, for any belt.

He's one of the most popular stars in WWE, so McMahon needs to find a way to get him back to the top of the card.

And according to RAW GM Kurt Angle, that should be happening very soon.

BACKING FROM THE BOSS

Last week, Angle did a fan Q&A on his Facebook page - and Balor was one of the names mentioned to him.

Someone asked him when we're likely to see Finn with "some gold around his waist" - and the RAW GM had a pretty simple reply.

"Soon. I think the company wanted to see how durable he was. He's ready now."

That's promising for both fans and Balor himself - it appears that the Irishman hasn't been forgotten about by management in WWE.

Just how soon that happens though, only time will tell.
