At UFC 230, Nate Diaz is scheduled to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon. He hasn't had a fight since losing to Conor McGregor almost two years ago but looked set to compete again this November. That was at least until his appearance at UFC’s 25th-anniversary press conference on Friday, which has since thrown that bout into doubt.

BEING OVERSHADOWED

It all started off well when Diaz was brought on stage to a lot of cheers, squaring up against Dustin Poirier, his challenger at UFC 230.

The American even took the time to answer a question about why he chose to fight "The Diamond" - claiming that "it’s a championship fight" and that "he's ready to go".

But shortly after that, as things were moving nicely, a promo video for the recently announced fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov was played on-screen.

That didn't go down well at all with Diaz, who stormed off stage, according to MMAMania.

DIAZ VS POIRIER IN DOUBT

After leaving the press conference, the Stockton native took to Twitter, claiming that he won't be fighting anymore.

"I’m not fighting on that show *** the @ufc," Diaz wrote.

It's been clear for some time now that the relationship between UFC and their lightweight fighter is pretty much hanging by a thread.

ADDING INSULT

Diaz is probably already annoyed that his co-main event appearance at MSG in a few months hasn't been massively promoted.

But to put McGregor's face on the big screen during what should have been his moment just adds insult to injury.

"Notorious" won their last meeting on decision back in 2016, after five grueling championship rounds.

Conor got the last laugh then and it seems he's got another one over on his rival this time, without even knowing.

Whether Diaz will actually jump ship ahead of November's PPV remains to be seen. But after what happened on Friday, it wouldn't be at all surprising.
