After what seems like an eternity of waiting, Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov's UFC fight has finally been made official.

It will take place on October 6 at UFC 229 - with the lightweight title on the line.

But the bout is about far more than just the gold because beef between the two fighters is far more personal than that.

THE CONTROVERSY

Back in April, McGregor attacked a bus full of stars following a UFC 223 press conference - hoping to send a message to Khabib, who was on-board.

"Notorious" crashed that event after "The Eagle" had an altercation with a teammate and good friend of McGregor's, Artem Lobov.

Ever since that day, fans have been expecting to see the two share an Octagon - and now it looks set to happen.

However, not everyone is impressed with the UFC's latest big fight announcement.

A RIVAL REACTS

Nate Diaz, who's scheduled to take on Dustin Poirier a month later, really isn't happy about McGregor vs Khabib.

In fact, following the announcement, he tweeted "I’m not fighting on that show *** the @ufc" - throwing his own bout into doubt.

Clearly, he's not happy with how the UFC have handled their business. It was probably best then, for people to avoid asking him any questions about that fight for a while.

But that didn't happen - and we already know who Diaz is picking to win that event. No one.

'I AM THE WINNER'

When asked who's favourite, Nate gave a rather dismissive reply:

"I whipped ones’ ass, and I slapped the **** out of the other one. so they’re both my little *******. That’s who I got," he said, per MMAMania.

TMZ followed up that question by asking if he wants to challenge the winner, to which Diaz replied: "I am the winner."

It's pretty clear that the 33-year-old isn't at all bothered about that fight - but his own relationship with UFC is pretty much hanging by a thread too.

He hasn't stepped in the cage since losing to McGregor back in 2016 - and following his rivals big fight announcement, Diaz may refuse to fight Poirier now.

Hopefully, though, that won't happen - and if we get McGregor vs Khabib followed by Diaz vs Poirier a month later, then UFC fans won't be complaining one bit.
