Grujic's future takes a twist

The Serbian midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City and he was expected to rejoin the promoted club on a temporary basis.

However, Grujic now looks set to stay at Liverpool after Cardiff boss Neil Warnock admitted a “contract issue” had put an end to his proposed switch to The Bluebirds.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have been reluctant to allow Grujic to leave on loan until the 22-year-old, whose current deal expires in 2020, pens an extension.

Yet Grujic is unwilling to do so, and so he’s set to stay at Anfield.

“Grujic looks like he will stay put... I think he would be better off here but it is a contract issue, I understand his point of view," Warnock said.

"Liverpool have four competitions before Christmas and he can play in those without being named in the 25-man squad.

"I have missed out on a couple of targets waiting for him. It is disappointing as everything was agreed with Liverpool. But sometimes fate intervenes."

Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news and they believe it could be a blessing in disguise.

Grujic impressed in pre-season and the added depth he provides could come in handy.

With Liverpool competing in four competitions this season, there's no doubting that Grujic will get minutes if he stays.
