Unai Emery has made some shrewd additions to his Arsenal squad. The Spanish coach wasn’t blessed with the biggest transfer budget - it paled in comparison to the funds available at Paris Saint-Germain - but he’s still done a fine job in the window.Bernd Leno will rival Petr Cech for the No.1 position while Sokratis Papastathopoulous adds experience to the back line. There’s a great deal of buzzing surrounding Lucas Torreira following the Uruguyan’s performances at the World Cup.Meanwhile, 19-year-old midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has looked very impressive in pre-season.Another new signing who has an important role to play this season is Stephan Lichtsteiner. The 34-year-old right-back isn’t the flashiest signing but he offers experience and provides competition to Hector Bellerin, who hasn’t fulfilled his potential yet.

Arsenal fans are loving Lichtsteiner

Lichtsteiner made his debut in the 2-0 victory over Lazio on Saturday and fans were pleased with what they saw.

One thing that stood out was Lichtsteiner’s no-nonsense style.

The Swiss defender was involved in a scrap less than two minutes into the contest, and he would later confront Lazio’s Senad Lulic.

Check out his highlights from the match.

Arsenal aren’t known for being the most punishing of teams but in Lichtsteiner, they have a player who won’t be afraid to rough opponents up.

And that pleases Arsenal supporters.

He's just the sort of character Arsenal need.

Opposing players will quickly learn not to mess with Lichtsteiner.

If Lichtsteiner is to play against Man City, that means coming up against the speedy Leroy Sane.

That's a serious challenge, but Lichtsteiner is a smart player and he’s unlikely to be caught out of position in the same way that Bellerin often is.

Ultimately, the Switzerland international’s arrival should help to get the best out of Bellerin.

The Spaniard faces genuine competition now and Emery won’t be afraid to start Lichtsteiner if he believes that is the best decision.

Arsenal have issues on the opposite flank.

Sead Kolasinac is out for between eight and 10 weeks and Nacho Monreal could miss the City game through a knee injury.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who started at left-back against Lazio, could fill in against the reigning champions.
