Colchester boss searches for finishing touch

Colchester manager John Ward said his side will only start to climb the table if they start finishing off more of their chances following a 1-1 home draw with Plymouth.

Andy Bond headed in his fourth goal in six league games from Anthony Wordsworth's corner in the 22nd minute, but Argyle skipper Reda Johnson swept home from close range after the U's had failed to deal properly with Kari Arnason's long throw three minutes after half-time.

Ward said: "We hadn't finished the opportunities in the first half, but we had them in the second half too. We've done a lot of good things in the game and we've played against a good side."

He added: "But we've stood up to them and we've now gone six matches without a defeat. We're tough to beat, but we have to finish off our forward moves.

"We just haven't quite been clinical enough in the first six league games to give us a point or two more. Plymouth raised their game after half-time because we had the best of that first period.

"It was pleasing to get a goal from a set play but we were disappointed to concede one."
