When it comes to football, Graeme Souness is a pundit who certainly isn't afraid to come out and say what he really thinks.

He enjoyed seven successful seasons at Liverpool during his playing career before going into management and currently works most notably for Sky Sports.

In his weekly column for the Sunday Times, Souness has been analysing Premier League clubs ahead of the new 2018-19 campaign.

The Scotsman believes Manchester City are favourites to retain the title and that Liverpool, even though they may go close, will probably miss out.

When explaining his opinion, Souness picked out Jurgen Klopp's latest signing Alisson, and his comments are sure to anger lots of Reds supporters.

Liverpool splash the cash to sign Alisson

Following Loris Karius' Champions League final nightmare and Simon Mignolet's inadequacies, Liverpool finally bought a top-class goalkeeper this summer.

Alisson joined the club last month from Roma for £66.8 million in a deal which made the Brazilian the most expensive 'keeper in history.

The 26-year-old made his debut for Klopp's men on Saturday in Dublin, keeping a clean sheet and pulling off some good saves in the 5-0 thrashing of Napoli.

Souness doubts Alisson's true quality

While many people are thinking Alisson's acquisition could be the final piece in Liverpool's jigsaw, their former manager isn't too sure.

Souness is fearing for the 25-year-old's first term in England and has questioned how good he really is, writing, via 101greatgoals: "He (Alisson) played in Brazil and Portugal.

"Then, he was initially kept out of the Roma team by Wojciech Szczesny, who found English football difficult at Arsenal."

The 65-year-old continued: "So, he’s not coming with 300 to 400 games at the highest level under his belt and, despite the fee, there has to be a question mark against him."

Alisson's history: Is he good enough?

The Scottish pundit clearly isn't convinced by Alisson yet, but there's no doubt that the Brazil international is coming off a tremendous season at Roma.

He played 64 matches in two years in the Italian capital and is his country's number one, representing them at this year's World Cup and 31 times in total.
