Say what you want about Sergio Ramos, but he'll probably go down as one of the most successful players of his generation.

So far in his career, he's won over 20 major trophies, including the World Cup, two European Championships, four Champions Leagues and the same number of La Liga titles.

Real Madrid are facing a season with a new manager in Julen Lopetegui, life after all-time top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo, and they've been doing so without Ramos.

The defender hasn't featured in Real's pre-season games due to his exploits for Spain at the World Cup but seems to be keeping an eye on his side's progress.

Madrid beat Juventus on Saturday, and Ramos produced an interesting reaction on Instagram to Lucas Vazquez captaining the team in his absence.

Lucas captains Real v Juve

Lucas, who played a whopping 53 times last term, replaced Gareth Bale in the 47th-minute against Juve, moments before Marco Asensio made it 2-1.

Vazquez came through the ranks at the Bernabeu and eventually ended up sporting the captain's armband in America, and club skipper Ramos has reacted.

Ramos replies to Lucas' Instagram

Following the 3-1 win over the Italian champions, Vazquez posted a picture on Instagram of himself captaining Real, with the message: "We keep getting rhythm."

As you can see below, per Marca, both Karim Benzema and Ramos, who also captains his country, left replies on the 27-year-old's post.

Benzema, who started in the victory, simply said "Capi", while Ramos' response translated into English reads: "You only have four more years to go."

"And then I will give you the armband", the 32-year-old added, whilst also referencing fellow Madrid defenders Nacho and Dani Carvajal.

Can we read more into Ramos' response?

Obviously, on the surface, Ramos is merely having some fun with one of his closest friends and teammates, but there's potentially more that can be made of his comments.

The centre-back may have suggested that in four years' time, when he'll be 36, he could either leave Real or retire from football - who knows?

Ramos' last outing for Los Blancos was the 2018 Champions League final triumph and he'll want to be involved for their next competitive match.

After facing Roma in the International Champions Cup, Real face neighbours and Europa League winners Atletico in the annual UEFA Super Cup on August 15.
