The future of Willian has been something of a soap opera at Chelsea this summer.Supporters have been divided about the Brazilian in general and haven't quite known how to react to all the rumours surrounding a potential departure from Stamford Bridge. There have been suggestions for some time that Jose Mourinho sought a reunion with him at Manchester United, while it was believed Barcelona placed numerous bids for his services. However, the clock is ticking for the transfer window and Willian made his first appearance of the season as a second-half substitute in Sunday's Community Shield.Entering the pitch in the 59th minute, it was an incredibly frustrating afternoon for the Blues as two goals from Sergio Aguero ensured Manchester City grabbed the trophy.

Willian exit rumours

That being said, there was plenty of reason for fans to feel optimistic about Maurizio Sarri's post-match interview when the futures of Willian's teammates Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard were discussed.

The pair have both been linked to moves to Real Madrid all summer long and fans had been fearing something of an exodus at the club.

"I talked to them two days ago so I know what they will say to me tomorrow. I’m ready. But I think more good than bad," the Italian informed BT Sport.

Willian settles all the rumours

What about Willian, though? After all, he has been regarded as the most likely player to leave west London this summer.

Well, it seems that Sarri didn't have to say anything about the issue because Willian himself seemed to end months of speculation with some comments of his own.

As reported by Sky Sports, Willian confirmed that he had held discussions with Sarri, concluded that he was happy at Chelsea and never talked about leaving once.

He went onto note in his post-match interview: "I’m happy here. I’m happy to be at Chelsea. I’m looking forward to playing well and winning titles.

"When a new manager arrives, you have more motivation and after holidays you are refreshed mentally, so you just try to do everything possible to win games and win titles. "

Unsurprisingly, such a major update has sparked a reaction on social media and, in truth, Chelsea supporters are torn on Willian's decision to stay.

Chelsea fans react on Twitter

Not only are some fans unconvinced by the Brazilian but were hopeful they could strike a swap deal with United for Anthony Martial. Check out the reaction below:

To the disappointed fans, it seems you might have to get used to Willian for a little longer.

His performances in recent seasons have been inconsistent yet on his day, the Brazilian is an incredible asset in the Premier League and it's no wonder big clubs were interested.

Martial probably has more talent and potential in his locker, but could easily have proven a more risky direction to take and especially if no separate fee was received for Willian.

Regardless, though, Chelsea fans can finally put to rest all the rumours surrounding their right winger this summer and look ahead to the season proper.

And never write off the Blues, even if they made a stumbling start.
