On August 5, the Cleveland Browns announced that they had reached a deal with the Buffalo Bills to trade Corey Coleman. In return for sending the wide receiver to Buffalo, Cleveland acquires a late-round draft pick.  Coleman's move rounds off what has been an embarrassing few years for the Browns and their rookies.

BAD LUCK

Between 2012 and 2016, Cleveland selected a total of nine players in the first round of those five drafts combined - but all of them failed miserably with the franchise.

Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, Barkevious Mingo, Justin Gilbert, Johnny Manziel, Danny Shelton, Cameron Erving and Coleman were all expected to do big things in the NFL.

However, none of them are still with the Browns - and to suggest that the team's scouting record in recent years has been a little embarrassing, is an understatement.

MAKING MISTAKES

Coleman himself was taken as the 15th overall pick of the 2016 draft - and that was one of Cleveland's worst decisions of all.

Many fans believe they took him far too early - and they passed on a number of stars as a result.

The wide receiver, who had just five touchdown receptions in his two seasons with Cleveland, was taken ahead of a number of future Pro Bowlers.

One of those was fellow WR Michael Thomas, who went to the New Orleans Saints in the second round - as the 47th overall pick.

Coleman's trade has caused quite a stir around the league - and the news even reached Thomas himself.

STICKING THE BOOT IN

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller took to Twitter to remind everyone of the decision Cleveland made taking Coleman ahead of Thomas, writing:

"Never forget: the Browns drafted Corey Coleman over Michael Thomas."

That comment made its way back to Thomas, who decided to troll the Browns with his simple response.

Brutal. What could have been for the Browns?

In 2017, Thomas had 104 catches for 1,245 yards and five touchdowns, while Coleman had just 23 receptions for 305 yards and two touchdowns.

Still, you win some and you lose some - and on this occasion, Cleveland very much lost.

A FRESH START

After his move to the Bills, 24-year-old Coleman will be hoping to get his career back on track - but the Browns decision to trade him appears odd.

He was battling for the number two WR spot in Cleveland - as Josh Gordon's future is still unclear.

It's unclear when he'll return due to off-field health issues, meaning the Browns are going to struggle to fill that position.

Is a move for Dez Bryant in the near future, perhaps?
