Luka Modric has had an extraordinary summer.

The 32-year-old enjoyed more success with Real Madrid, as Los Blancos overcame Liverpool to win their third Champions League final.

Modric then went into the World Cup in buoyant move, and he managed to lead his Croatian side to the World Cup final.

Although they would succumb 4-2 in the final to France, Modric was recognised for his performances by winning the Golden Ball.

After a dream tournament, it was expected that the former Tottenham player would return to Real Madrid's midfield.

With Cristiano Ronaldo having departed to Juventus, the 32-year-old's importance to the team has now become even greater.

But, shock reports emerged linking Modric with a move away from Spain. Inter even made a bid for the midfielder.

AS have now reported how Modric has reacted to that offer, and it's not all good news for Real Madrid fans.

According to sources close to the player, Modric wants to leave Real Madrid, but is willing to listen to what the club has to offer him.

The Italian club have offered him a four-year contract worth €10 million euros a year; a €3.5 million increase on what he current earns per year at Real Madrid.

That significant increase is said to be very tempting for Modric, but he has not made up his mind just yet.

The Croatian wants to speak with the club and new coach Julen Lopetegui when the squad returns from their U.S. tour.

And it is believed that if Real Madrid come close to matching Inter's offer, Modric will agree to stay in Spain.

It seems that the ball is now in Real Madrid's court.

All they have to do is give Modric a significant pay-rise and ensure he stays at Real Madrid beyond this summer.

He'll surely be worth keeping at the club given his performances for both club and country last season.

If Modric does want to leave, it would take quite an offer for him to do so.

Florentino Perez has already addressed rumours of his departure, and named a massive price for any potential suitors.

"Modric is not leaving Real Madrid," he said. "He is not leaving unless someone pays the 750 million euros of his release clause and not a euro less."
