Max Verstappen has had an interesting season, to say the least.

The 20-year-old came in for a lot of criticism during the early running after some reckless and irresponsible driving cost his team some valuable points.

It was also claimed by some of the other drivers that Verstappen was proving to be the most dangerous driver on the circuit.

However, he has since settled down quite nicely, and, having got into his rhythm, has put in some fine shifts behind the wheel of his Red Bull.

He claimed a stunning win in Austria, showcasing just some of the bags of talent we all know he possesses.

Despite the improving performances though, Verstappen lies in sixth place on the drivers’ standings, a whopping 112 points behind leader Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen was forced to retire after just five laps at the recent Hungarian Grand Prix and it is becoming increasingly harder for the youngster to hide his frustrations with Red Bull’s inconsistencies.

Questions are starting to be raised as to whether or not Red Bull is the place where the Dutchman can fulfill his massive potential and now, after comments relating to Ferrari and Mercedes, it looks that Verstappen is starting to think the same.

In his latest comments, Verstappen bemoaned the speed at which Red Bull designed aand implemented upgrades in comparison to their rivals.

“If there are new parts, they will of course go to the factory team first,” referring to the fact that as Red Bull use Renault engines, the Renault team gets first look at new upgrades..

“Which is also logical, but it’s a pity for us.

“You just know that at Ferrari and Mercedes these are immediately introduced,” he added.

“Then they might have advantage of that for one or two races, before the rest takes a step.

“We are always two races behind,” he concluded.

With Daniel Ricciardo already confirming his future lies away from Red Bull, bosses will be scrambling to ensure that Verstappen doesn’t follow him out of the door.

If they really want to make that happen though, they are going to have to give him a car that can challenge the big boys at the top.

Plans to switch engine supplier from Renault to Honda next season might just be enough to convince Max to stay on a little longer.

It wouldn’t be a big surprise if rumours surrounding Verstappen’s future continue to snowball.
