Chelsea have taken action after Thibaut Courtois fails to turn up for training again

Thibaut Courtois clearly has his heart set on a move away from Chelsea.

The Belgian stopper has been pushing for a move back to Madrid this summer, and that view was reinforced by his agent, Christophe Henrotay, on the weekend.

“I have been reading everywhere that Chelsea are saying it is up to Thibaut, but he has made it clear to the club that the best option for him is to move to Madrid,” he told The Sun, per ESPN.

“For him this is a big decision because he wants to be near his family, and there is an offer in place [from Madrid] for Chelsea to accept.

“We have seen suggestions that it is about money, and it is true he could get an increase with a move. But he has turned down a better offer elsewhere because this is more than a financial decision.”

The 26-year-old was expected to return to Chelsea training on Monday after his exploits in the World Cup for Belgium.

But he chose to skip training, and he failed to return on Tuesday. It is believed he is still in Belgium in a desperate attempt to force through a move.

Chelsea have now taken action against their goalkeeper.

According to the Daily Mail, the London club have opened disciplinary procedures against Courtois.

They intend to hit him with a £200,000 fine – a fee that amounts to two-weeks wages for the goalkeeper.

Chelsea are also adamant that they will not sell him for less than £45 million.

Well done to Chelsea. It seems they are refusing to back down despite Courtois’ poor behaviour.

The report adds that Chelsea Maurizio Sarri is keen on signing Jan Oblak as Courtois’ replacement, and that he is even considering triggering his £89 million release clause.

Courtois was meant to have talks with Sarri over his future on Monday, but of course those talks have been delayed after the Belgian’s absence from training.

The Italian boss hinted on Sunday that he will let Courtois leave if that is his wish.

“I’m not interested in the agent,” Sarri said. “I want to hear Courtois. If Courtois tomorrow says to me the same [as the agent], then I have to speak with my player, of course. Because I only want players with very high levels of motivation.”
