The record fee for a goalkeeper is about to be broken once again in the 2018 summer transfer window.Liverpool finally beat Gianluigi Buffon's record when they splashed £67m on Alisson Becker, but Chelsea have gone one further. With Thibaut Courtois on the verge of a £35m move to Real Madrid, the Blues have reacted by activating the £71m release clause of Athletic Bilbao's Kepa Arrizabalaga. The 23-year-old has made just 53 senior appearances for Bilbao, but was part of Spain's World Cup squad in Russia. And the fact Real Madrid were keen on bringing him to the Bernabeu in January proves he's certainly an eye-catching talent - although the deal was being valued at £18m back then.Bilbao acted by offering him a new deal with a huge release clause, one that they didn't think was going to be met.So what can Chelsea fans expect from a goalkeeper who's name isn't too well known to the average supporter in England?Well, ESPN editor and Spanish football journalist David Cartlidge has provided a very interesting thread on Kepa after watching him develop in Bilbao.

He also reveals that Bilbao already have their replacement in Alex Remiro, who excelled on loan at Huesca last season.

It's intriguing to see a high-standing journalist who's watched Kepa for years have so many good things to say about him.

Given his age and stature, there are instantly going to be comparisons with David De Gea.

The Manchester United superstar famously struggled in his first few years at the club, but has grown into perhaps the finest goalkeeper around.

Back in 2017, De Gea was full of praise for Kepa, saying: "Kepa is still very young. He has a long career ahead of him. But his head is in the right place.

"When you train with him you realise that he has a very high level. He is a great goalkeeper. He needs to continue to compete at this level and grow game after game.

"I'm also young and we [De Gea, Kepa and Pepe Reina] are here with the maximum enthusiasm to help the national team."
