Spare a thought for Tottenham Hotspur supporters. In order to compete in the Premier League, it’s vitally important that clubs spend. And not just at the top of the table. Tottenham's 'laughable' Grealish bid

So it’s left Mauricio Pochettino in an awkward position with just three days until their season opener against Newcastle United.

Spurs have been linked with Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish throughout the summer but the latest reports are disappointing.

Per Sky Sports, Grealish has been told that he will not be sold this summer.

The Championship outfit have rejected a £25m offer from Spurs and are set on keeping him at the club. The Mirror report that Villa want over £30m for the player.

The Mirror have provided an in-depth look at Tottenham’s pursuit of the 22-year-old, even revealing just how cheeky they were when their enquiries began.

Apparently, Tottenham’s first offer for Grealish, submitted at the height of ex-owner Dr. Tony Xia’s financial woes, was £3m plus 21-year-old midfielder Josh Onomah.

That’s laughable.

Spurs fans react

Villa’s reaction to the bid wasn’t reported but one assumes that they questioned Daniel Levy’s sanity.

Spurs fans are seriously disappointed with their chairman.

Aston Villa are aware of Grealish’s desire to leave the club but he doesn’t plan to hand in a transfer request.

The midfielder is a childhood Villa supporter and is aware of the backlash he would receive by publicly forcing a move.

His approach has to be applauded.

As for Tottenham, it’s hard not to wonder if that initial offer put Villa off from the start.
