Thibaut Courtois' seven year stay at Chelsea has come to an end.

The Belgian stopper spent four seasons in Chelsea's first team, where he made 154 appearances.

He makes the move to Real Madrid in a deal worth £35 million, with Mateo Kovacic going in the opposite direction on loan.

The goalkeeper would look back on his time at Chelsea with fond memories.

He enjoyed great success at the club, having won two Premier League titles and a FA Cup triumph.

And he sent a heartfelt message on Facebook last night to thank everyone at Chelsea.

However, the post was taken down within 30 minutes of being posted.

Why? Because of the sheer amount of abuse he received.

Courtois failed to turn up to training earlier this week in order to force through a move to Real Madrid.

He eventually got his wish, but his no-show did not go down well at all with Chelsea fans.

The amount of abuse reached such a scale that Courtois felt compelled to take the post down.

What a sad way to end his Chelsea career. The 26-year-old did not behave how he should have done in his final days at the London club, but he has still been a terrific servant to the club.

His full statement can be read below in full:

“Hello CFC Family," he wrote, per the Sun. "With these few words I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the four fantastic years that have passed.

“Chelsea FC will always have a special place in my heart. I was only 19 years old when the club showed a great belief in my abilities.

“The fact that such a big club was already following me was like a dream come true. The decision to first send me away helped me to grow into a goalkeeper fit for Chelsea FC.

“When I returned, I was very happy to be part of one of the biggest teams in the world. I fulfilled a childhood dream playing in the Premier League, therefore I am really proud that we were able to win two titles, a League Cup and a FA Cup!

“A huge thank you to all my teammates and technical staff over the past four years who I shared this success and amazing moments with, both on and off the pitch.

“The team would never be successful without the help of all the other members who are devoted to the players and the club, such as the medical department, kit men and all the others who I can’t thank separately.

“Last but not least I want to thank the fans for their great support over the years. I hope you understand that being closer to my kids was considerable in my decision. I wish you all the best for the future.”

Chelsea have moved quickly to replace Courtois, with Kepa Arrizabalaga having already moved to the club in a deal worth £71.6 million.
