As we roll towards SummerSlam, there have been plenty of rumours suggesting that a couple of top WWE stars are close to returning from injury.

The first of those is Dean Ambrose.

The RAW star has been absent since December last year - after suffering a very serious triceps injury.

CLOSE TO A RETURN

Thankfully, it's reported that "The Lunatic Fringe" is now very close to a return and it's suggested he could have some part to play at SummerSlam.

That's great news for him and WWE fans, but Ambrose wasn't the only star tipped for a return this summer.

Jason Jordan, who was injured back in February, has been out for the last six months recovering from neck surgery.

As early as June, many outlets reported that WWE were preparing for his imminent return. But it's now August and Jordan is nowhere to be seen.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there's a reason for that.

WHY WE HAVEN'T SEEN HIM

He reports, per Ringside News, that Jason's injury is 'much worse than expected' and that he won't be returning at 'the present time'.

That's very disappointing news, especially considering many fans thought that he'd already be back on TV by now.

In fact, there was talk of a very interesting storyline which would reunite Jordan with his former tag team partner, Chad Gable.

However, that now won't be happening - at least for some time.

WHERE JORDAN FITS IN ON RAW

After missing half of 2018, it's unclear where Jordan will fit in on Monday nights anyway.

Before his injury, the WWE star was in the middle of a pretty strong push.

He was involved in a storyline with main eventers like Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns - and on top of that, was general manager Kurt Angle's on-screen son.

The landscape of RAW has changed so much in the months that Jordan's been sidelined, so it's hard to tell where he's going to fit upon his return.

But WWE have plenty of time to work that out, considering that it's still quite some way off.
