Boxing Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren has reacted to claims from Eddie Hearn that Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder will not be happening this November/December.

A super-fight between ‘The Gypsy King’ and ‘The Bronze Bomber’ appears to be close, but Hearn has stated that Fury is simply “playing games” with the American to get more publicity for his bout with Francesco Pianeto next weekend.

Wilder is keen to secure a box-office WBC title defence clash, after negotiations broke down with Anthony Joshua last month.

'AJ' will instead fight Alexander Povetkin at London’s Wembley Stadium on September 22, but he does have April booked in as well, which could be more realistic for Wilder.

Fury will continue his comeback on the undercard of interim featherweight title holder Carl Frampton’s first defence against Luke Jackson at Windsor Park in Belfast.

The 6ft 9inch giant has documented his training via social media and looks to be nearing his optimum weight of 17.5 stone. 247lbs was the exact weight of the Mancunian-born bruiser when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko three years ago to became the unified heavyweight champion of the world.

Hearn has been extremely vocal when discussing the potential Wilder-Fury bout and believes that ‘The Gypsy King’ lacks the confidence to make such a bold move this early on his his return.

Warren was quick to respond in his Boxingscene.com column, writing: "Hearn was also quick to write off the prospect of Tyson Fury stepping up after his next fight to take on the WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder later in the year, suggesting he lacks the confidence to make such a bold move this early into his return.

"Well, it is very close to happening.

"Tyson actually wants to fight Wilder and not just talk about it and it is a bit of an irony that the man who claimed he wouldn’t sign Tyson because of low-level opposition is now rubbishing genuine negotiations over him stepping up to the plate."

Watch this space then.
