On Wednesday night, WWE taped the first episodes of the 2018 Mae Young Classic.

It's recorded in advance and the second ever all-female tournament will begin airing on September 5 - and will continue weekly until the Evolution pay-per-view in late October.

A HISTORIC YEAR

The finals of the tournament will conclude that night at the inaugural women's PPV in New York.

Truly, 2018 is already a historic year for WWE's women inside the ring - and following the success of Wednesday night, they're also making history outside of it.

Earlier this week, for the first time in the company's history, two women were in the commentary booth, calling the action in the Mae Young Classic.

Renee Young and WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix joined Michael Cole ringside - and judging by WWE's latest announcement, they did a brilliant job.

A CHANGE IN THE COMMENTARY BOOTH

On Thursday morning, ESPN broke the news that Renee will be making even more history next week.

Jonathan Coachman will be absent from RAW on Monday, so Young will serve as a guest commentator, filling in for him.

That means, for the first time ever, WWE will have a woman on commentary for the entire three hour show.

In a year that will be remembered as one of the most groundbreaking for women in pro-wrestling, this is another huge step forward.

A GREAT REACTION

Understandably, Young is very excited about making history on RAW and she revealed her reaction to the news.

"When Michael told me, I was like, 'This Monday?! What are you talking about?!'," she told ESPN.

"I am so excited for this opportunity. To be sitting with Cole, who has been such a great champion of mine since I've been working for WWE, it's going to be really cool."

CALLING THE GO-HOME SHOW

It's one thing be on commentary for a normal episode of RAW, but Renee will get to call the SummerSlam go-home show.

It's probably one of the most important shows of the year and arguably, there's no one better than her to fill in for Coachman alongside Cole and Corey Graves.

Hopefully, this won't be a one-off.
