The Premier League transfer window is over and the respective 20 managers will be left to reflect on another summer of wild spending.

Well, except for Mauricio Pochettino, who didn’t spend a penny.

Jurgen Klopp has turned his Liverpool side into title contenders, while Manchester City’s attack got even stronger with the arrival of Riyad Mahrez.

So Klopp and Pep Guardiola will be happy. Jose Mourinho, however, won’t be.

After finishing 19 points behind Man City last season, the Manchester United manager expected to be backed in the transfer window.

But the centre-back he desired never arrived and there are question marks surrounding the squad heading into the new season.

As for the new boys, Fulham and Wolves both splashed the cash and look primed to cement themselves in the top flight.

Merson grades the 20 clubs

So, who were the winners and the losers of the window?

Everton can be considered a winner after signing Richarlison, Lucas Digne, Joao Virginia, Bernard and Yerry Mina, while Andre Gomes has been brought in on loan and Kurt Zouma could follow.

But Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Liverpool came out on top, grading the Reds’ window A+.

Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker were brought in to bolster a squad that reached the Champions League final last season.

“They've made unbelievable signings,” Merson said.

“Xherdan Shaqiri could be one of the signings of the window, he could be worth £35m now and the season hasn't even started. This team will close the gap.”

Merson gave Everton B+ - he has question marks over the £40m arrival of Richarlison.

“It's a lot of money for Richarlison,” the former Arsenal playmaker said.

“I watched him in a few games last season and after the first six games, you would've paid that for him, but the next 32, you wouldn't have bought him for that.”

Merson also ‘expelled’ Tottenham after they failed to sign anyone.

“It's a shame because two years ago, they were trying to win the league and now, they're looking at top four football,” he said.
