Marca's reaction causes a stir

So it was a decent summer for Marco Silva and he will expect to challenge for a top-six finish this season.

You’ll notice that three of the aforementioned arrivals all came from one club - Barcelona.

All three had their struggles at the Camp Nou. Digne failed to usurp Jordi Alba as the first-choice left-back and it became apparent last season that Mina isn’t ready for that level yet.

Meanwhile, Gomes described his life at the club as “a kind of hell” in a candid interview in March.

So all three have something to prove in England.

The reaction of Spanish newspaper Marca to the three deals has caused a stir among football fans.

They refer to Everton as “a luxury client” for Barcelona, and joke that the Blaugrana should find a way to honour the Toffees for signing three unwanted players.

“Barcelona should consider a way of formally honouring Everton this summer as the Premier League side have become a valued customer at the Camp Nou, sending a total of 52.6 million euros to the club in exchange for players that Ernesto Valverde was keen to offload,” Marca write.

Barcelona will be pleased with the business, but Marca should remember that Everton are winners here too.

They are now serious contenders in the battle to qualify for Europe.

The report has got football fans talking on social media. Everton fans are pointing out that any player deemed worthy of playing for Barcelona has some level of talent.

The only real annoyance for Everton is that Mina’s fee was so drastically increased after his performances for Colombia in Russia.

Barcelona paid £10.5 million to sign him from Palmeiras in January and he did nothing for them that would warrant a rise to £27 million.

Another “favour” that Marca claim Everton did for Barcelona was to agree to pay Gomes’ wages in full.

Ultimately, Everton will be judged at the end of the season. If Digne, Mina and Gomes help them to a successful campaign, then their outlay will be considered worth it.
