Colby Covington has given his side of the story.

Covington can’t wait to get back inside of the Octagon to fight UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley for the strap but that won’t happen.

Covington earned the interim welterweight title after being able to score a decision win over former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the co-main event of the main card for UFC 225 pay-per-view event at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois

So here is the situation, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported that the UFC was considering stripping Covington of the interim welterweight title because they want to book the UFC welterweight champion against rising prospect Darren Till.

It turns out that this was true and the fight was made for the upcoming UFC 228 pay-per-view event.

Covington recently underwent surgery to correct a nasal issue, which obviously would lead to some recovery time as a result but the UFC needs fights and they are on this trend of having two title fights for all pay-per-view events.

Thus, UFC decided it would strip Covington of the belt after he declined a fight at UFC 228 because he’s out until October or November.

The UFC 228 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center.

Covington recently said to MMAjunkie he wanted the fight and for to have a long build-up as well.

“Why are they trying to rush a camp?” he said. “This fight needs a build-up, man. It needs a 12-week promotional build-up. Let me get out there and show that I can promote, and I can market fights and sell fights. Because nobody’s selling fights like me. I know how to do that now. These other guys, they don’t know how to do that. I wanted the fight, but I didn’t want the date. There was no way I was going to be ready.”

“It’s only been up for me. I don’t think about the negative in my life. I just think about the positives. They’re not stripping anything. I earned that belt. The only way you can take that belt is by beating me in the octagon, and there’s not a man alive that can beat me.

“Whether it’s ‘Tyquil’ Woodley or ‘Tillsbury Doughboy,’ I’ll be ready for that No. 1 contenders fight.”

“It sucks, but it is what it is. Now, this time, I’m just hoping Tyron doesn’t (expletive) this up. That’s all I can say to him, is Tyron, don’t (expletive) this up. I built this. You didn’t build this.”
