Kenny Dalglish says it's only a matter of time before Roy Hodgson has Liverpool firing on all cylinders.

The Anfield legend was part of the selection committee that brought the former Fulham boss to Liverpool and has total confidence that the 63-year-old will turn things around on Merseyside.

Liverpool have started the season in sluggish fashion, but King Kenny says fortunes will soon change.

“I think at this particular stage in time it’s a bit transitional for the football club," he told talkSPORT magazine.

“Roy’s come in and he’s a really good guy and it will go well for him but, at the moment in time, there’s a few transitions taking place.

“We haven’t even played the full XI [yet] that Roy would choose because they’ve not been available. Joe Cole should be back so that gives us a plus and Fernando [Torres] in form will frighten anybody.”

It was revealed yesterday that Dalglish himself applied for the top job at Anfield after the departure of Rafa Benitez, but the ultimate conclusion to put Hodgson in the hot seat suits all parties.

"One day, I was in a meeting with Christian [Purslow] and the chairman, Martin Broughton, and I formally put my name forward," Dalglish wrote in his new book.

"'We don't want you, Kenny', came the reply from Christian and the chairman. Fine. That's their prerogative.

"They explained they had different plans for me, a position with greater longevity."
