Arsenal have jumped to the head of the queue for Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri who is also wanted by PSV Eindhoven, according to Voetbal International.

Shaqiri burst into the football public’s consciousness after scoring a wonder goal in Switzerland’s European Championship qualifier against England recently.

It was reported at the start of the week that Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson was looking to use his strong contacts in the Swiss game to lure Shaqiri to Anfield.

However, PSV were alerted to his availability shortly after and now it seems Gunners manager Arsene Wenger will turn up the heat in the race for the Basel man’s signature.

The 18-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season so Thorsten Fink will be looking to cash in on the winger in the January transfer window.

With Liverpool not having much money to spend and Arsenal not big fans of splashing the cash, it will be an interesting fight between the two sides.
