Jamie Carragher made his return to punditry duties on Sky Sports on Friday evening. The Liverpool legend had appeared in the broadcasting company’s midweek Premier League Launch Show, but this was the first time back in his normal role. The 40-year-old was suspended in March after spitting at a Manchester United supporter and his daughter.Carragher has proven himself to be a fine pundit, though, and while his actions won’t be forgotten, it was good to see him back alongside Gary Neville for the start of the new season.During Sky Sports’ Friday Night Football pre-match show, three Manchester United supporters were introduced to discuss the club’s current situation. And a comment from one prompted laughter from Carragher and Neville.Host Kelly Cates asked the fan, named Darren, what his expectations were for Man United this season.

United fan makes Neville and Carragher laugh

“What do you want from this club, what would be a successful season?” Cates asked.

Darren replied: “A 22nd Championship would do me. But obviously, we’re still behind City.”

Err, hold on a moment. Man United have 20 titles to their name - one more would make it 21.

Carragher and Neville immediately realised the fan’s mistake. Check out their reaction below.

Funny stuff.

The supporter’s wish to see the Red Devils land a 21st title this season has started well enough.

Jose Mourinho’s side secured a 2-1 win over Leicester City, with Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw grabbing the goals.

Tougher tests are to come, though.

Many pundits don’t think they have a chance of challenging for the title and believe a place in the top four is a more realistic aim.

The Red Devils finished 19 points behind Man City last season and didn’t do enough in the transfer window to close the gap.

The centre-back that Mourinho wanted never arrived despite links to Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina.

Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof did well in just their second start together against Leicester.

Man United supporters will hope that it’s the start of a solid partnership - or else the board will have no choice but to sign a new centre-back for Mourinho next year.
