The Premier League is finally back.Tottenham travelled to Newcastle for the early kick-off on Saturday and despite becoming the first club since the summer transfer window was introduced not to make a single addition, the Lilywhites looked in decent form.Jan Vertonghen opened the scoring - just about - when his header made it over the line in the early exchanges.Rafa Benitez's men quickly hit back through Joselu thanks to a superb cross, before Serge Aurier produced an equally good cross from the right to set up Dele Alli. It's easy to imagine the conversation Mauricio Pochettino might have had with Benitez as they shook hands on the touchline as it could be argued that both their respective clubs had a disappointing window.Yet, while Mike Ashley was almost as reluctant to invest as counterpart Joe Lewis - and the owner faced huge protests before kick-off outside Sports Direct - Newcastle did make one astute signing in the form of Kenedy. The 22-year-old re-joined on loan from Chelsea having spent the second half of last season at St James' Park.

Kenedy looks sharp

Blues supporters will have had a close eye on him and he was thoroughly impressive against Spurs, winning 100% of his tackles in the first half and making more take-ons and more interceptions than any other Newcastle player.

Take a look at him waltzing through the midfield below:

In fact, several Chelsea fans on social media were questioning whether he should have been kept at Stamford Bridge as Maurizio Sarri gets ready to usher in a new era.

Frustratingly, he squandered a fine opportunity for an equaliser in the second half due to a poor touch inside the box.

Newcastle also hit the woodwork twice as they fought valiantly to level things up.

Kenedy was undoubtedly their key man, piercing Spurs' defence with some searching balls over the top but his fellow Magpies were unable to get on the end of them.

Benitez will no doubt have been very happy with what he saw from the youngster despite the result.
