Angel Gomes is something of a fans' favourite amongst Manchester United supporters.Remarkably, the youngster has been plying his trade at Old Trafford since the age of six and worked his way up to a first-team debut in 2016 when he became the club's youngest player since Duncan Edwards.Breaking into the senior outfit in modern football is no easy task, but there's great hope that Gomes will make it one day and at 17-years-old, time is on his side. There have been no loan spells for Gomes so far and he is currently accumulating experience in the Premier League 2 as part of United's reserve team. Here, he plays alongside the likes of the highly-rated Tahith Chong amongst fellow youngsters and players who have fallen out of favour in the first-team.

Gomes continues to impress

Gomes collected the award for the academy's Young Player of the Year in 2016-17, a coveted accolade won by players such as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in the past.

He was also part of United's pre-season squad this summer alongside Chong, Mason Greenwood, RoShaun Williams, James Garner, Ethan Hamilton and Joshua Bohui.

However, the season proper started for Gomes on Thursday night when United U23s took on their Fulham counterparts.

Gomes' highlights vs Fulham U23

The game finished 2-2 with Gomes himself, as well as Chong, writing their names on the scoresheet.

Reports from the match signalled that Gomes had impressed against Fulham and that rumour was thoroughly confirmed when his individual highlights emerged from the game.

Twitter user @MxZvGx compiled all his best bits from the match, creating a montage of pure brilliance that showed off the 17-year-old's skills, trickery and even defensive attributes.

Take a look at the video for yourself:

Unsurprisingly, his performance attracted plenty of attention on Twitter and even Jesse Lingard watched the clip, delivering his own verdict with a tweet.

Lingard and fans react on Twitter

The academy graduate indicated that the performance was what fans should expect from Gomes and highlighted the importance of his defensive work.

Check out how Lingard and United fans reacted:

There's plenty of reason to be excited about United's youngsters right now.

Supporters have been applauding the highlights of Chong for some time now and in Gomes, they have yet another incredibly talented forward in their ranks.

If Gomes can be gradually integrated into the United first-team with appearances in the cup competitions, then there could easily be a future on the big stage for the Englishman.

Only time will tell whether Jose Mourinho affords him the opportunity but Gomes couldn't be doing much more to catch his eye in the Premier League 2.

The only message United fans and Mourinho can give him going forward is, well, give more of the same.
