Liverpool fans got their first chance to see Naby Keita in Premier League action this weekend.

Originally signed last summer, Kopites tracked his performances all year for RB Leipzig and watched in delight as he impressed during the club's pre-season campaign.

Superb showings in the Bundesliga and friendly fixtures would always be irrelevant if he didn't perform in the Premier League, though.

His first opportunity came against West Ham - under new manager Manuel Pellegrini - and Liverpool made a swaggering start to the 2018-19 campaign.

Mohamed Salah raised two fingers to claims he was going to be a one season wonder by sneaking in at the back-post with a goal from Andrew Robertson's cross.

Liverpool impressed vs West Ham

Then it was the turn of Sadio Mane, finding the net to ensure Liverpool entered the break with an impressive 2-0 lead.

In a way, it was normal service resumed, despite the fact there had been so much change at Anfield over the summer months.

Keita was given the start, unlike fellow signing Fabinho, alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner.

Redknapp's first impression

And he certainly played his part in Liverpool's brilliant start against West Ham, so much so that he attracted the attention of Jamie Redknapp after just eight, yes eight, minutes.

The 23-year-old had made a brilliant start to the game and showed some superb combination play with Sadio Mane, encouraging Redknapp to come onto commentary,

He was so impressed by what he saw, that he noted live on air: “Naby Keita, he’s been here 8 minutes but it looks like he’s been here 8 years.

"He’s got a fantastic relationship with Sadio Mané already, he’s always looking to feed him.”

That's a pretty massive statement but one vindicated by everything Keita did afterwards.

Journalist Sam Pilger even predicted Redknapp's claim will be 'the most insane commentary we will hear this season.'

Liverpool fans rave about his performance

After all, Liverpool fans were taken aback by his showing on Twitter, so take a look at the reaction below:

All the hype has been justified so far.

Kopites have been excited to see Keita get started at Liverpool and his Premier League debut suggests he's played in a Jurgen Klopp team for years.

There had always been speculation that his playing style would be perfect for Liverpool and one match into his spell, the proof is in the pudding.

And his comments this week certainly suggest he's settling in, with Keita telling Liverpool's website: “Settling in the city so far has been fine because I haven’t really been out to too many places, I’m usually at home.

"But as far as settling into the club goes, it’s been fantastic.

“My first day was marvellous, everybody was very welcoming and very friendly towards me so I had no difficulties there at all. The key thing now is to get to work and show the capacity of what it is that I can bring to this club.”
