Unai Emery's first Premier League game ended in defeat to Manchester City.Arsenal succumbed to a 2-0 loss against the reigning champions, with Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva scoring for the visitors.Emery admitted after the game that his side did not perform how he wanted, but that they improved in the second half.”The result was 2-0 but I think on the pitch over the 90 minutes we were getting better," he said after the game, per the Daily Express."The first half we didn't play like we wanted. We spoke at half-time about taking more responsibility for the second half, to do a little more.“We wanted to build with the ball and break their lines. I think in the second half we played more like we want."Arsenal showed a willingness to play out from the back throughout the game, despite being caught out on numerous occasions.Petr Cech was just one player who showed he was uncomfortable on the ball amid the Man City press.Sam Allardyce had his say on the result this morning on talkSport, claiming that the result is Emery's fault due to being insistent on his team playing out from the back against Man City.“It's the manager's fault,” the former England boss said on talkSport. “Don't ask someone to do against Manchester City what you shouldn't do.“What do Manchester City do? Press, press, press, so why do you try and play out [from the back]?“Even the Arsenal crowd cheered when they dropped one in the opposition's half!“You cannot just force 'the only way to play is this way' in this country.“We're getting obsessed with this stupid 'let's play out from the back, split the centre-halfs either side of the 18-yard box and go and play from there'.“It's utter rubbish to play like that all the time.”

When asked about Guardiola's side also playing out from the back, he replied: "When you're the best you can do it."

That is brutal from Allardyce. Saying that the result is primarily Emery's fault is harsh, but you can see where he's coming from.

Arsenal must be admired for trying to pass out from the back and play football against Man City.

But with his tactic clearly not working, Emery should have tried to switch it up and play a more direct style of football.

Trying to pass through this Man City side was always going to be a tough task, and he should have reverted to a different tactic with his team struggling.

Nevertheless, Allardyce's comments went down extremely badly on Twitter with many criticising the former England manager.
