WWE reportedly planning shock finish to Reigns v Lesnar at SummerSlam

Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will meet for the Universal title - again - at SummerSlam this weekend in what seems to be a neverending feud.

While the WWE is hellbent on Reigns being the man to finally dethrone Lesnar, they have a lot of money invested in the Beast Incarnate as well and while he seeks a return to the UFC - with a UFC heavyweight title shot seemingly awaiting him - the WWE title picture has become much more unpredictable.

On the one hand, one would think Lesnar needs to drop the title if he is to go into full training for a UFC return at the highest level.

On the other, Vince McMahon is surely intrigued by having his world champion enter the octagon. Imagine if he wins and becomes a dual world champion in two totally different domains? That means money for the WWE without a doubt.

The obvious narrative has always been that Reigns, who has come so close on a few occasions against the former UFC heavyweight champion, would finally beat him and send him packing from the WWE, but that's not so clear now.

The WWE has a good reason to keep the belt on Lesnar and all of this teasing that he and Paul Heyman will split seems all too conveniently timed.

According to Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com via NoDQ.com, the WWE is considering doing something out of the ordinary for their SummerSlam match:

“Right now there are apparently two ideas for the Lesnar/Roman match,” Alvarez said. “One of them is a rather short match. And the other is – you guessed it – a long match. By long I mean one of the longer matches Brock has ever had since he’s been in the company. I guess they’ll decide which one is best on the day of the show.”

You could say that's not really groundbreaking news - of course, that was their options. However, if they were to go with a squash, one would assume that the WWE wouldn't be making Lesnar look strong for the UFC as that makes no sense - it would be Reigns squashing Lesnar.

A really long match wouldn't really be in the WWE's interest. The crowd is almost certainly going to try and hijack the match once again and the idea of seeing the two big men exchange finishers in between barrages of German suplexes isn't all too appealing.

The WWE could shock the world by having Reigns go over strong, but if Lesnar isn't fully departing the company, it would be hard to imagine them doing that to him after keeping him so imperious for so long.
