Dedryck Boyata is causing no shortage of controversy at Celtic Park right now.Reports are circling that the Belgian defender has effectively refused to play for Celtic and is demanding to be sold this summer.Boyata is understood to be 'raging' that the Hoops didn't sell him in recent months and even a £9 million approach from Fulham wasn't enough to accommodate his exit. There is also reportedly been interest from Turkey, Greece and Spain with Sevilla apparently joining the race in recent days. His agent Jacques Liechtenstein is trying to force through a move away having marched into Celtic's training ground personally for a meeting with Brendan Rodgers on Friday.

Boyata refusing to play

Per the Daily Record, he hit out at Celtic by noting: "Previously there was interest from Fulham, Olympiakos and Fenerbahce.

"Offers of £7million and £8m – but apparently Celtic is financially strong enough not to go into that.

"It’s strange, because on the other hand, the club apparently does not have the money to make Dedryck a dignified new contract proposal."

Chris Sutton reacts on Twitter

Boyata has plied his trade in Glasgow since 2015 and it seems his time at the club is coming to an end in ugly fashion, if his team have anything to do with it, anyway.

The situation has sparked plenty of reaction and now Celtic legend Chris Sutton has waded into the debate.

Sutton can often be outspoken on Twitter and in his punditry in general, and there was no chance he was holding back when it came to Boyata.

In fact, the BT Sport pundit wants the player gone ASAP and has branded him a 'disgrace.'

Take a look at his tweet below:

Celtic supporters are completely behind Sutton as well with some even suggesting they'd personally drive Boyata to Craven Cottage for £9 million.

Boyata is certainly a capable centre-back on his day and was part of Belgium's impressive World Cup squad this summer, but his errors have proven costly in the past.

And Sutton is certainly not worried about the prospect of him waving goodbye to Celtic Park.

Of course, the Hoops may need to search for a new option at centre-back yet the debacle surrounding the Boyata situation makes accommodating his exit the priority.

It's been a tough week for Celtic with the defeat to Hearts and they'll hoping the whole episode can be sorted sooner rather than later.

Perhaps there needs to be some Sutton-like conviction amid the war of words and worrying reports.
