Liverpool started the 2018/19 Premier League campaign with a bang on Sunday as they smashed four past West Ham at Anfield.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane (2) and Daniel Sturridge secured the first victory of many in a season where the Reds are expected to challenge Manchester City for the title.

Having finished fourth last term but splashed the cash on reinforcements this summer, Jurgen Klopp's side have never looked stronger.

Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson joined the club for approximately £170m combined and were all fantastic signings in their own right.

It's in midfield where Liverpool have strengthened most. Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Keita and Shaqiri are now all options for the club.

Add to that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will return from injury in 2019, and Liverpool have eight decent midfielders to choose from.

Klopp now boasts one of the strongest midfields in the Premier League which has seen a hilarious video resurface on social media from 2012.

TIMES HAVE CHANGED

Six years ago was a dark time for Liverpool. They finished eighth in the 2011/12 season and then came seventh the following campaign.

A string of terrible signings plagued the Reds and at one point their midfield pairing was Lucas Leiva and the infamous Charlie Adam.

One Liverpool fan even dedicated a compilation video to them and titled it: "Lucas Leiva/Charlie Adam - Liverpool Dynamic Duo." Just watch below and be amazed.

It doesn't get much more laughable than that. From Leiva and Adam to Fabinho and Keita, Liverpool's midfield has come a long way since 2012.

Exciting times are ahead at Anfield and with the free-spending Klopp now in charge, it surely won't be long before Liverpool return to the peak of English football.
