Ever since his time at the Oklahoma City Thunder was thought to be coming to an end, Carmelo Anthony has been linked with a move to the Houston Rockets.

Anthony's time with the Thunder came to an end earlier this offseason when he was traded away to the Atlanta Hawks after he was unwilling to accept a bench role with the team.

The Hawks finalized his buyout with the team two weeks ago, clearing the way for him to sign a deal with the Rockets once he had cleared waivers. He received $25.4 million of his original 2018-19 salary, minus a $2.4 million contract buyout with the Hawks.

However, two weeks have passed since Anthony cleared waivers and he is yet to sign a contract with the Rockets, despite the fact he's been connected with the franchise almost all the offseason.

Rockets deal

That's about to change really soon though as, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Anthony will sign a one-year, $2.4 million contract with the Rockets later today.

Woj states that Melo has traveled to Houston and will finish his physical today before signing a contract with the team.

Despite being unhappy with his bench role at the Thunder, the Rockets are widely expected to use Melo in the exact same manner in the 2018-19 season.

However, Anthony has already taken steps to build chemistry on the court between himself and Rockets stars, as he has been working out with Chris Paul and James Harden this offseason.

Harden has already said as well that he thinks Houston will be able to figure something out in order to make sure that he's happy with his role on the team.

Questions were raised when the original rumours of Carmelo signing with the Rockets surfaced due to his past rocky relationship with the team's head coach Mike D'Antoni during their time together at the New York Knicks, but this appears to be a non-issue.

Last season at the Thunder alongside Russell Westbrook and Paul George, Melo only averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in 2017-18, one of his worst seasons in the NBA to date.
