Mohamed Salah got his 2018-19 campaign off to the perfect start on Sunday afternoon.
The Liverpool forward, who broke the Premier League record for most goals in a single season last term, netted the opener in the Reds’ 4-0 victory over West Ham at Anfield.
It was no less than anyone inside Liverpool’s home stadium expected. Salah was the firm favourite to break the deadlock in this fixture and he did not disappoint.
However, Salah is not the Reds’ leading goalscorer for the current campaign.
Sadio Mane helped himself to a brace against the Hammers and so leads the top scorer charts at Anfield as things stand. Daniel Sturridge completed the rout moments after coming off the bench in the 87th minute.
Salah, however, might find himself in a spot of bother after footage was posted on social media which shows him using a mobile phone while driving.
The video shows Salah driving away from Anfield after Sunday’s match while being pursued by selfie-hunting Liverpool fans.
Merseyside police tweet after seeing Salah footage
Salah, in order to try and make it look like he was busy, is seen on his phone while stuck in traffic.
The fans in the video ask the Egyptian superstar to open the window but he refuses to acknowledge them - presumably because he was driving at the time and knew he couldn’t pull over and sign autographs.
But his decision to use his mobile phone at the wheel means the footage was always going to be brought to the attention of police - and Merseyside Police have now issued the following tweet…
“We have been made aware of a video believed to show a footballer using a mobile phone whilst driving. This has been passed to the relevant department. Thanks for letting us know.”
It’s currently unclear whether Merseyside Police will decide to investigate the matter further or not.
The current penalty for using a phone while driving in the UK is six points and a £200 fine.
Here’s how football fans on Twitter have reacted to the footage…
