On the opening day of Arsenal’s new post Arsene Wenger era, the new boss Unai Emery made the brave decision to play the ball out from the back. The decision was more surprising considering the opposition were the imperious Premier League champions Manchester City - after all, Guardiola’s men epitomise the dangers that a high-pressing unit can cause.Rome wasn’t built in a day, and a 0-2 defeat showcased the size of the task on Emery’s hands. The Spaniard’s decision for Arsenal to pass the ball in their own half didn’t pay off, and one player struggling to adapt was Petr Cech. The Czech legend actually had a good game, making plenty of saves to keep the score-line respectable. One moment in the first half stood out for all the wrong reasons though. As they were again pushed back by a high City press, Arsenal sent the ball back to Petr Cech, and his attempted pass went out for a corner, whilst very nearly finding its way into the Arsenal net.You can see the moment below:

Admittedly it was pretty funny, and the error caught the attention of many on social media, including the Twitter account of Bayer Leverkusen.

Cheekily, the German club suggested that their former keeper Bernd Leno might do a better job in between the posts.

Whilst clearly a joke, Cech failed to see the post as a laughing matter, responding with a cutting criticism of Bayer that has been liked thousands of times already.

Cech is a legendary keeper, and arguably deserves more from a fellow club.

Sensing the need to show him more respect, a new Leverkusen tweet has offered an olive branch to the Arsenal stopper.

Bayer have certainly done the right thing in ending the tension, and it was a nice touch to mention the Aguero save.

Whilst glad it’s all over, Cech must be thinking that he’d have saved himself some hassle by knocking the ball long down the pitch.
