The Premier League is back and football fans are buzzing to see its return.

Manchester United kicked off proceedings last Friday with a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, before Arsenal and Manchester City wrapped up the opening weekend with a heavyweight clash.

The fact there is still 37 game weeks to go is exciting to say the very least and predicting how the final table will look in May is almost impossible.

However, it doesn't stop football fans from giving it a good go and you can almost guarantee that no two supporters would have an identical table.

There are six teams with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League football, before we even consider a Leicester-like shock.

2018/19 Premier League season

That's not to mention the scrap to dodge relegation, a debate which looks even cloudier that after all three promoted teams sensationally avoided the drop last season.

Of course, there's also the dreaded mid table - will Newcastle finish 10th or 11th, will Burnley finish in the top ten again or tumble to 12th?

Given the uncertainty around these predictions, there's the temptation to use apparently more scientific means of forecasting the final standings.

Fan simulates FM18 50 times

TalkSPORT have already wheeled out their notorious SuperComputer and now one football fan has taken it upon himself to use FootballManager to make his prediction.

Meticulously setting up the new signings and teams on the 2018 game, YouTuber 'Bongster7' embarked on the brutal challenge of simulating the Premier League season 50 times.

He then called upon all of the data and Microsoft Excel to compile the average table.

With so many simulations it ensured strange seasons such as Everton being relegated and Bournemouth finishing fifth didn't have too much of an impact - check out the final standings below:

1. Manchester United

2. Manchester City
3. Liverpool
4. Chelsea
5. Arsenal
6. Tottenham Hotspur
7. West Ham United
8. Burnley
9. Leicester City
10. Bournemouth
11. Everton

12. Watford
13. Southampton
14. Brighton & Hove Albion
15. Newcastle United
16. Crystal Palace
17. Wolverhampton Wanderers
18. Huddersfield Town
19. Cardiff City
20. Fulham

There's certainly some shocks, we're looking at you Everton and Fulham.

Although Fulham are newly promoted from the Championship, their transfer business suggests big things this season and an 11th place finish for Everton would be something of a catastrophe.

United winning the league title is also something of a shock considering City's complete dominance last season and Liverpool could be disappointed with a bronze medal.

West Ham and Burnley impress, too, while the likes of Newcastle and Brighton continue to consolidate their positions in the top division.

Of course, the chances are slim that Football Manager will have the final table spot on, even if the YouTuber in question carried on for another 500 simulations.

Nevertheless, given the amount of statistics they call upon and the data behind their results, Football Manager is about as good as it gets.
