Manchester City were a very different team before Sheikh Mansour's takeover in August 2008.

They weren't able to splash £50m or more on players and were nowhere near competing for the Premier League crown.

The Citizens were much more reliant on their youth system back in those days and coincidentally, they actually won the FA Youth Cup in 2008, right before Mansour arrived.

So what happened to those young stars? Sadly, none of the 14 from their 4-2 aggregate victory over Chelsea are still at the Etihad.

However, quite a few have had solid careers elsewhere, but only five made an appearance for City's senior side.

GK - GREG HARTLEY

The best way to start the list, because Hartley's career took a turn no one would have expected, with the 28-year-old shot-stopper currently at US amateur side Chattanooga FC.

DEF - DEDRYCK BOYATA

One of the very few to make it into City's first-team, collecting 13 caps for the Citizens. Has been at Celtic since 2015 and looks like he could be on his way out this summer.

DEF - BEN MEE

Never made a senior appearance for City, but Mee is now recognised as one of the best centre-backs in England at Burnley after moving to Turf Moor in 2012.

DEF - KIERAN TRIPPIER

Sound familiar? England's 2018 World Cup hero never got a look in at City, but he's made a serious name for himself in the Premier League with Burnley and Tottenham.

DEF - RYAN MCGIVERN

Made one senior appearance before being loaned out six times. Eventually joined Hibernian in 2013 and he's now at Linfield in Northern Ireland.

MID - ANDREW TUTTE

Failed to make the cut at City, but enjoyed two decent spells at both Rochdale and Bury. The 27-year-old midfielder is now with League Two side Morecambe.

MID - VLADIMIR WEISS

Made only one appearance for City, before being loaned out to Rangers, Bolton and Espanyol. He's currently enjoying a successful stint in Qatar with Al Gharafa, scoring 17 goals in 38 games.

MID - SCOTT KAY

He's still in Manchester, but sadly, it's FC United of Manchester in the sixth-tier of English football. Like most on the list, he failed to appear for City's senior side.

FWD - DAVID BALL

After struggling to get his career started after leaving City in 2011, Ball went on to have quiet a successful five-year stint with Fleetwood Town. The striker is now at Rotherham.

FWD - DANIEL STURRIDGE

The big success story alongside Trippier. Only made 21 appearances for the Citizens, but made a real name for himself at Chelsea before moving to Liverpool in 2013.

FWD - ROBERT MAK

Made 45 appearances for Slovakia's national team, scoring 10 goals. Never got a look in at City, so he opted for FC Nurnburg in 2014. He's now with Greek side PAOK.

SUB - DONAL MCDERMOTT

The Irishman is currently a free agent after being released by Swindon Town. Has played for 12 different clubs since 2008, including Salford City, Dundalk and Ramsbottom United.

SUB - ABDI IBRAHIM

The Norwegian made one appearance for City before being released in 2014. He's currently back in Norway with Valerenga. Ibrahim also earned two senior international caps.

SUB - ANGELOS TSIAKLIS

The Cypriot right-back is a free agent after being released by Olympiakos Nicosia. Had spells at both Wrexham and FC United of Manchester in England.
