Khabib Nurmagomedov will defend the UFC Lightweight Championship in arguably the biggest fight in the promotion's history when he faces Conor McGregor later this year at UFC 229 on October 6.

The winner of this contest would be the biggest fighter under the UFC banner, so there's a lot more riding on this fight than just a title belt and bragging rights between the two rivals.

Despite the fight still being a couple of months away, many fighters have already weighed in as to who they think will win. One of those fighters is Georges St-Pierre.

Speaking recently to Submission Radio, GSP said that he expects Khabib to beat McGregor when they meet inside the Octagon at UFC 229 due to the fact he's undefeated and is exceptional on the ground.

"If I had to put my house on it, I would have to say Khabib (will beat McGregor). Khabib [has] never lost, Conor has lost before and lost on the ground. That’s where Khabib is the most competent.

"However, Khabib [is] sometimes a slow starter. He gets punched a lot. He didn’t look good at the start of the fight (with Michael Johnson).

"He [finds] it hard sometimes to close the distance. But once he’s got you in the clinch, he’s very good. I believe the odds are in Khabib’s favour, maybe 60-40."

GSP isn't the only one that thinks Khabib can beat McGregor, as Dustin Poirer, who will be fighting against Nate Diaz at UFC 230, believes the Russian will win as well.

He said on The MMA Hour: "I’m kinda leaning toward Khabib. I just don’t know if he’s going to stop Conor or whatnot, but I’m thinking he’s going to get the victory.”

Poirer believes McGregor has a chance to win the fight, but he wants to see if his takedown defense and cardio can hold up so that he can take full advantage of openings during the contest.

“He’s got great timing, great judge of distance. We’ll just see if the takedown defense holds up and the cardio holds up. That’s all he has to do.

"The openings will be there, but he just has to stand the test of the wrestling and the conditioning, the physical part that Khabib’s going to put on early in the fight.”

Both GSP and Poirier have already expressed interest in fighting the winner of Khabib vs McGregor, but it's Dustin that seems the most likely out of the two to get the fight since he has been the most active in UFC.
