SmackDown Live this week finished in a rather weird manner considering it was the go home show before SummerSlam this weekend, WWE's second biggest show of the year.In Greenville, South Carolina, SmackDown ended with Samoa Joe reading off a letter to his SummerSlam opponent, AJ Styles, which he claims is from his wife, Wendy. It was a rushed segment as The Destroyer had barely finished reading the letter before the show went off the air, and we hardly saw a reaction from The Phenomenal One either.

Styles/Joe Backstage Confrontation

WWE, however, completed the picture on their social media accounts after the show as they published a video of Styles being held back from attacking Joe backstage.

In rage, Styles was being held back by The Usos and Gallows and Anderson from attacking Joe, who continued to taunt the WWE Champion ahead of their SummerSlam clash.

The Destroyer stayed just out of The Phenomenal One's reach, continuously taunting him saying he had three weeks to find him but did nothing.

Joe then asked AJ is he was going to make him a promise, but then said he can't even keep promises to his wife. He then left, with Styles still struggling to break free, saying, 'they are protecting you from me'.

It would have been so much better if they had shown this on TV, but it looks like they were short on time and had to end the show before this confrontation could take place on air.

The Club reunite in dark match

During the dark match after SmackDown as well, Styles reunited with The Club, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, to take on Joe, Randy Orton, and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Orton and Joe spent most of the match fighting Gallows and Anderson outside of the ring, while Styles and Nakamura battled inside the ring.

The finish saw Orton hit Anderson with an RKO, only for Gallows to plant a big boot on him. Nakamura then hit him with a Kinshasa, but then AJ connected a Styles Clash on him to get the win for his team and send the fans home happy.

Fingers crossed WWE gives Styles vs Joe the attention and time it deserves this Sunday at SummerSlam, as they certainly didn't give it enough this week on SmackDown.
