Manchester City go into the new season as the overwhelming favourites for the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola's side are odds on with some bookies to retain their crown, despite Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool strengthening in the summer.

And after City's dominant display at the Emirates against Arsenal on Sunday - where they won 2-0 - few would argue against City strolling to the title once again.

Even without Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Leroy Sane and Vincent Kompany in the starting lineup, City looked a class above the rest.

Bernardo Silva looks ready to take the Premier League by storm after his second consecutive masterclass in a deeper midfield role.

But as is the case with any defending champion, changes have to be made to keep players on their toes.

Riyad Mahrez was the big summer signing to add yet more high-quality competition in the forward areas and Guardiola has decided to make a big change behind closed doors as well.

As revealed by The Sun, Guardiola has made a key alteration to the way City players are now fined by the club.

Instead of a set amount attached to a certain infraction, the player will now be fined a percentage of their salaries - meaning the high earners will be handing over some serious cash.

If Kevin De Bruyne were to be fined 1% he would be forking out around £2600, with all proceeds from the fining system going to charity.

It's a clever method from the boss, making sure that the high earners and other members of the squad are on more of an even keel.

Pretty much every other club doesn't follow this protocol, but hopefully Guardiola is starting a trend here - which could see charities earn more money.

Fines at football clubs can range from lateness to being on your phone too much during lunch.

The report from The Sun even states that some clubs fine players for urinating in the team shower - and so they should!
