Manchester City and Premier League fans in general were rocked by news of Kevin De Bruyne's injury today.

Rumours started with publication City Watch and the news was eventually confirmed by the club itself.

A statement on City's official website read: "Kevin De Bruyne is undergoing tests on his right knee after sustaining an injury at training on Wednesday.

"The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin's condition in due course."

It's a huge blow to Pep Guardiola's side, with De Bruyne the key man behind their title win last season.

He's the midfield metronome that links everything together and he's pretty much irreplaceable.

And The Times report that De Bruyne himself had a worrying reaction after he picked up the injury in training.

Paul Hirst reports that the Belgian star himself expects to be out for around nine to 12 weeks.

Clearly, he knows it's a serious injury and the official updates from City in the coming days will likely confirm the sad news.

It's said to be a very similar injury to the one he picked up against Everton in 2016, which saw him sidelined for over two months.

Guardiola is lucky that he has a number of midfielders to fill in, with David Silva and Fabian Delph set to be available this weekend against Huddersfield.

He also has Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan, who were both brilliant in the 2-0 win over Arsenal on the weekend.

And, of course, there is Phil Foden, who should get some unexpected game time early on in the season.

It's a blow for City, but if there's any team in the Premier League prepared for the event of losing their star man, it is the Citizens.
