WWE continued their build-up towards SummerSlam this week on Monday Night Raw with a segment between Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman in the middle of the ring.
This Sunday, The Big Dog will go up against Heyman's client in Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship in what will likely be the main event of SummerSlam.
When Reigns and Lesnar face each other this weekend, it will be their third meeting this year after previously facing each other at WrestleMania 34 and the Greatest Royal Rumble.
On Raw this week, Heyman attempted to align himself with Reigns after difficulties with The Beast over the past couple of weeks, and offered him some sort of agreement for him to look over.
However, with The Big Dog distracted, Heyman sprayed pepper spray into The Big Dog's eyes, resulting him in being unable to see. Lesnar then made his way to the ring.
The Beast took down Reigns in the middle of the ring as Heyman watched on, meaning Lesnar is standing tall heading with the advantage heading into SummerSlam this Sunday.
What WWE fans might not know though is that both Heyman and Reigns went above and beyond to make this segment work, and to add authenticity to it as well.
According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Live, via Ringside News, The Big Dog was sprayed with real pepper spray on Raw this week.
You have to applaud Reigns for taking a hit like that, as a lot of eye damage can be caused by being sprayed in the face with pepper spray. Fans appreciate authenticity in storylines.
With this in mind, it will be interesting to see what kind of appearance The Big Dog will have this Sunday at SummerSlam for his Universal Championship match against The Beast.
There have been reports that Reigns could possibly align himself with Heyman this weekend in order to win the Universal Championship, but judging by how events unfold on Raw this week, this now seems unlikely.
Never say never though when it comes to the WWE.
