England’s World Cup campaign has seen them climb to sixth place in the FIFA rankings with Germany tumbling from the top to a lowly 15th.

Gareth Southgate’s side have jumped six places after England ended a 28-year wait for a World Cup semi-final appearance in Russia last month.

England beat Colombia and Sweden in the knockout stages before losing to Croatia in the last four.

France have risen seven places to top spot after winning the World Cup for the second time, under Didier Deschamps.

Led by the likes of Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe, Deschamps' team overcame Belgium in the semi-finals before beating Croatia 4-2 in the final.

Belgium move up to second after making the last four in Russia and Brazil drop one place to third.

Croatia climb 16 places to fourth, Uruguay are up nine to fifth, and Portugal, Switzerland, Spain and Denmark complete the top 10.

Argentina drop six places to 11th but the biggest losers are 2014 world champions Germany.

Joachim Low’s side have slumped 14 places after losing to Mexico and South Korea in Russia and failing to make the knockout stages of the tournament.

Wales have fallen one position to 19th, with Northern Ireland up two places to 27th.

The Republic of Ireland and Scotland also went up two spots to 29th and 40th respectively.

This time the rankings have been determined by a new algorithm created by FIFA. Rather than consider a nation's form over an extended period of time by producing an average, points are added/subtracted from the previous total based on the most recent results.
