Isn’t it great to have the Premier League back?
We’re only one gameweek old but we’ve already seen glimpses of what we can expect from each side this season.
Manchester City will probably still be irresistible, Liverpool may not be too far behind, while it might take time for Unai Emery to work his magic at Arsenal.
Some football fans might be slightly tweaking their pre-season predictions following the opening weekend results.
Or, if you’re clever like Paul Scholes, you’ll be making all your predictions after watching every team in action.
Scholes was asked by the Premier League to make his predictions for the season following last weekend’s action.
And this is how Scholes answered the following questions:
Who will be champions?
Scholes: “I think Manchester City will win the Premier League again. They won the league by a distance last year and they look just as good as ever when I saw them the other day. So I expect City to win the league.”
Who will finish in the top four?
Scholes: “We don’t know what Chelsea are going to be like, we don’t know what Arsenal are going to be like with their new coaches. But I’d go for City to win the league, Liverpool second, Manchester United third and I’ll go for Tottenham fourth.”
Who will the surprise package?
Scholes: “I think Fulham could do well. They played the best football in the Championship for the last two years I think, they didn’t get up until last season. I think they’ve made some really good signings and you know it’s a tough place to go, Craven Cottage. If they can get that place buzzing, I think they could be a team to watch out for.”
Who will win the Golden Boot?
Scholes: “I know City will make the most chances, there’s no doubt about that. Can Aguero stay fit for all of it? If Aguero played every game, no doubt he’d be the one for me. But I can’t look past Harry Kane. I think he’s a sensational centre forward, he takes penalties as well, takes free-kicks, takes everything. So I’m going to go for Harry Kane for the Golden Boot.”
Who will be the Player of the Season?
Scholes: “I know Salah did well last year but I felt the Player of the Year should have come from the champions, and that was De Bruyne for me. If he’s anywhere near that type of form again this season, I expect Kevin de Bruyne to be Player of the Year.”
Which player should we watch out for?
Scholes: “I think a surprise player in the Premier League this year could be Lewis Cook at Bournemouth. I didn’t see a lot of him last season, I did the United v Bournemouth game and I was really impressed with what I saw. I spoke to Eddie Howe about him as well. I think he could be a dark horse and hopefully, he does well for Bournemouth.“
