Having lost Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer, Real Madrid got their 2018/19 campaign off to a bad start.

Los Blancos were beaten 4-2 by rivals Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.

It was Real Madrid's first loss in a continental final in 18 years - and it was the first time they conceded four goals since 2015.

New manager Julen Lopetegui demanded immediate improvements.

The former Spain boss said: "We are not happy and the negative is that we have conceded four goals and this is not normal. This will have to be improved, without a doubt.

"We have to improve in all facets, we do not like when we make mistakes and we have to improve in everything, not only in individual errors."

The post-Ronaldo era has not started well.

Despite receiving £99.2m from his transfer to Juventus, Real Madrid are yet to make any marquee attacking signings.

That could all change following the disappointing Super Cup display.

According to Sport, the humiliating manner of the defeat has caused alarm bells to ring at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Club president Florentino Perez is searching for a new striker and he's reportedly put three players on his wanted list.

Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi, Valencia's Rodrigo and RB Leipzig's Timo Werner top Real Madrid's realistic list, as per Sport.

Icardi, 25, is a proven goalscorer but the Serie A transfer window closes on Friday night so Madrid will have to move very quickly.

Rodrigo was part of Real Madrid's academy and has developed into an excellent striker at Benfica and now Valencia.

He was included in Lopetegui's 23-man World Cup squad.

And Werner is only 22 but has already proven himself in the Bundesliga as an excellent frontman.

Previously famed for signing 'Galacticos', Real Madrid aren't looking to sign a top-tier striker.

They deemed it impossible to prize Kylian Mbappe, Robert Lewandowski, Edinson Cavani and Harry Kane away from their current clubs.
