During the WCW Invasion angle in June 2001, one of the most controversial storylines at the time was Diamond Dallas Page's feud with The Undertaker.

The storyline was just one piece of why the major angle bombed overall, as the concept of DDP stalking The Undertaker then-wife Sara Frank didn't go down well with the fans at all.

After being one of WCW's biggest faces, putting him into a storyline like this as a full-blown heel ruined his stock in WWE. It ultimately lead to his initial push being nixed.

DDP recently spoke to GiveMeSport's Alex McCarthy about the controversial storyline with The Undertaker, revealing that he wasn't the original choice to be the stalker of The Deadman's ex-wife.

In fact, it was supposed to be Stone Cold Steve Austin.

He said: "I hated the idea at first. I'm trying to be a team player and this is Hollywood so to speak, we're trying to blur the lines of reality and not reality - you're not really stalking her - but that's the role you want me to play in a world where some people believe what the sh*t is!

"When you're doing something like a stalker idea, they built this storyline and couldn't get anybody to do it - that's the real deal. They wanted [Steve] Austin to do it. And Austin is like 'f*uck that!' and he told me about that later and I was like 'you couldn't have called me up and said that to me?!'

"But, the bottom line was, I thought they were trying to make us going in there. Because there was no more WCW, but that was not the deal.

"The deal was, and it had nothing to do with me personally, it could have been Sting or Goldberg or whoever - whoever it was was going to get fed to whoever it was in the top angle because it was ego and it was business."

It would have been strange to see Austin in this storyline. Being one of the biggest stars in the company at the time, this would have damaged his relationship with the fans, as the storyline was just ridiculous overall.

DDP was able to revive his WWE career over the following year before departing, but it could have been so much better for him if WWE hadn't had put him in this storyline.

DDP spoke to GiveMeSport to promote his DDP Y app, which is available now from the app store.
