Just six months on from their Super Bowl victory, the Philadelphia Eagles faced off against the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl LII rematch, except this time it was just a preseason game.

As Carson Wentz is still recovering from his ACL tear, Nick Foles took the field once again at the start of the game for the Eagles, but he wasn't in the game for very long.

With just over 12 minutes to go in the second quarter, Foles was hit hard by Adrian Clayborn on his shoulder, causing the Eagles quarterback to fumble the ball.

The 29-year-old immediately grabbed his arm near the elbow and shoulder area and went down in pain, giving a cause for concern for Philly fans.

Foles was able to speak to the media afterward, via Pro Football Talk, where he stated what happened and what are the next steps for him before he comes back onto the field.

He said to reporters after the game: “I was getting ready to throw a deep ball and it got grabbed as I was following on through, so it sort of got a little strained.

"So, you know, I was with the trainers, I’ll go in tomorrow and get treatment on it and sort of go from there. But it feels all right, feels pretty good. Hopefully there’s no issues.”

Foles said the injury is only in the shoulder, and that he's feeling optimistic about it.

He said: “[J]ust sort of got jarred in a funny way as I was following through but you know it feels good and we’ll check it out tomorrow more thoroughly,” while also adding that it’s “fair to say” he was in “some pain” after taking the hit.

“[W]hen you’re following on through on a deep ball and somebody grabs your arm when you’re going, it’s not the best feeling. But I feel optimistic about it and I’m excited to get into treatment tomorrow and just get this thing moving forward.”

However, he was unable to confirm if he would be ready to go by Week One of the regular season for the Eagles, meaning if push comes to shove and Wentz isn't ready to go either, the team could start their Super Bowl defense with Nate Sudfeld under center.

Foles said: “I’m not even going to go there. We’re just going to live in the moment and just sort of go day-to-day so I’m going to do everything I can to get back on the field and hopefully practice the first day we get back practicing, be ready to roll.”

“I mean, I’d be back on the playing field with the guys so that’s my goal, that’s what I feel like’s going to happen.

"But once again, you sort of have to go through the proper channels and proper protocols with all this so I’ll find out more information tomorrow and then go from there.”
