Bellamy vital for Wales - Flynn

Wales caretaker manager Brian Flynn has underlined Craig Bellamy's importance to his hopes of kick-starting the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

But on-loan Cardiff City striker Bellamy will have to wait a little longer before discovering whether or not he will retain the captain's armband he wore under former Wales manager John Toshack. Joe Ledley and Ashley Williams, along with Bellamy, are being talked about in the media as candidates to lead Wales in next month's critical qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland.

"I will make a decision (on the captain) when we come into camp," said Flynn. "I have my ideas and I have my thoughts, and I will discuss it with people who matter. He (Bellamy) is a fantastic player. Wales must have Craig Bellamy playing. If we are to get results, he is more than an integral part of that."

Ryan Giggs, Martin O'Neill and Chris Coleman are among those who have been linked with the full-time Wales job vacated by Toshack following a painful 1-0 defeat against Montenegro in Podgorica two weeks ago.

But 54-year-old Flynn, who won 66 Wales caps during a nine-year international career and has managed the country's successful Under-21 side since 2004, could end up trumping everyone.

"People talk about pressure, but it is a pleasure dealing with elite international footballers and working with them," he added.

"I feel I have been given an opportunity to show what I can do, and that is fantastic as far as I am concerned.

"I've got two games more than anyone else, so I have got a bit of a start. It is something I know I can do well - I have been working towards this for six years."
