Liverpool's transfer window has firmly been about incoming deals, for once, but they did sell a player this week.

Ragnar Klavan has left Anfield to join Cagliari for £2 million, bringing an end to his two-year stay.

He originally signed for the club as defensive cover from Augsburg, going on to play 39 Premier League games and scoring one goal.

It was a special goal, however - a 94th-minute winner against Burnley last season that helped to keep Liverpool's top-four ambitions firmly on track.

He was linked with a move to Newcastle this summer but any transfer between the two was blocked by Jurgen Klopp.

Things have clearly changed over the last few weeks, however, and off Klavan goes to Italy's Serie A.

And as any departing player can expect, he got his goodbyes on social media - including a great one from James Milner.

Milner, who has quickly built a reputation on social media, took to Instagram, saying: "Good Luck [Klavan]. Gonna miss those 40 yard diags of yours!"

He then pointed out that the 32-year-old's departure leaves Milner as the oldest member of the Liverpool squad left: "#nowheretodeflecttheoapjokesnow"

It's certainly a young squad at Liverpool - Milner is the only remaining player above 31-years-old and the average age of the side could be set to drop even more if Simon Mignolet gets his expected move away from the club.

Klavan's exit opens up the door for more young players to come through, as well - Joe Gomez looks set to continue at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk for the next few weeks at least, while Klopp has sung the praises of 21-year-old Nathaniel Phillips over preseason.

Breakthrough players like Curtis Jones and Rhian Brewster are expected to eventually get chances in the forward positions, too.

And so those OAP jibes will probably continue for Milner for the foreseeable future - but it's probably safe to say that he can handle it.
